There are mainly three periods as the renal disease worsens:
1. Oliguric stage
In this most serious stage, patient’s internal environment is inordinate badly. Patients will suffer from oliguria (less than 400ml/day) or anuria (less than 100ml/day), hematuria, hypertension, cylindruria and so on. If worse, water intoxication, hyperkalemia, metabolic acidosis and azotemia, will appear, endangering patient’s life. If this stage lasts several days more weeks, patient’s prognosis is becoming worse.
2. Diuresis stage
After oliguria stage, patient’s urine volume will be increased gradually. When urine volume is more than 500ml patients develop diuresis stage. In the beginning of this stage, renal clearance is not very good and the accumulation of metabolites still exists. After 4-5 days, BUN (Blood Urea Nitrogen) and creatinine will also reduce and patient’s disease condition will also be relieved. This stage will last 1-2 weeks.
3. Recovery phase
Urine volume will return to normal and renal function will also recover after 3-12 months. Most of patient’s renal function can return to normal. But there are also some patients will have chronic renal failure.
