Patient with kidney failure should be careful in his protein intake. Protein is important for body health, but it can also cause many problems to patient with kidney disease, because protein can produce many wastes that can accumulate in blood and need to be excreted out by kidney, which can aggravate patient’s condition greatly. The appropriate amount of protein intake for patient with kidney disease is 0.8g/kg, and it is important for patient to take high-quality protein, which is very necessary for body health, like egg white, lean meat, milk, fish, etc.

It is better for patient with kidney failure to take a diet that provides low amount of sodium intake. Much sodium is harmful for patient with kidney disease, because it is a major cause of edema and hypertension in patient with kidney disease, so patient should reduce their salt intake, which is the major source of sodium. The appropriate amount of salt intake for body is about 6~8g per day. In fact, we can take about 3g salt from the foods we take, so it is suitable for patient to add about 3~5g salt in their diet. While for patient with severe edema, his salt intake will be more less.
High calory intake
Patient with kidney failure should guarantee high calory intake in his diet, because that can guarantee the need of patient’s body activity, and it will also reduce the consumption of protein, which is very helpful for reducing the wastes in blood and reducing kidney burden.
Drinking water is helpful for patient’s kidney health, but for kidney failure patient who has severe edema, he should be careful in his water intake, because much fluid intake will aggravate his condition.
For patient who has obvious edema, the appropriate amount of fluid intake is 500ml plus his yesterday’s urine amount, but this volume should also be regulated according to patient’s condition.
