The functions of the kidneys

The kidneys have the ability to monitor the amount of body fluid, the concentrations of electrolytes like sodium and potassium, and the acid-base balance of the body. They filter waste products of body metabolism, like urea from protein metabolism and uric acid from DNA breakdown. Two waste products in the blood usually are measured: 1) blood urea nitrogen (BUN), and 2) creatinine (Cr).

Therefore, once creatinine level, BUN level, potassium level and other levels increase to some extent, it means the kidneys have been damaged to fail to work effectively.

Is creatinine level 3.9 dangerous in CKD?

It is certainly dangerous. When the kidneys are lightly or moderately damaged, they can leak out the creatine. However, when the kidney functions are less than 50%, the creatinine level will be higher than the normal level. So High Creatinine Level 3.9 is much higher than the normal range of 0.5-1.3, which means that kidney function is reduced severely.

In western countries, when creatinine level reaches to 5, they are often required to take Kidney Dialysis, since there is no other effective therapy for them. However, in China, there are many alternatives of dialysis to help you reduce high creatinine level and repair the kidney damage as well as improve the renal function with TCM treatments. Once your kidney function is improved well, it can work normally by itself to reduce high creatinine level 3.9 and reduce potassium level, too.

Creatinine 3.9 is in stage 3 CKD in which it is possible to reverse the condition with timely and effective therapy to protect the residual kidney function and keep far away from dialysis or even kidney transplant.
