High Creatinine Level: Cause, Symptoms, Treatment and DietCreatinine is the breakdown product of creatine in muscle, and is produced at a permanent rate under the normal circumstances. It consists of serum creatinine and urine creatinine. However, high creatinine level refers to high serum creatinine. The level of serum creatinine depends largely on how much kidneys can discharge creatinine. Because kidneys excrete creatinine unchanged, serum creatinine can be an important indicator of kidney disease.

For adult males, 0.6-1.2mg/dl creatinine is the normal creatinine level.

For adult females, 0.5-1.1mg/dl creatinine is the normal creatinine level.

What causes high creatinine level?

There are several factors leading to high creatinine level:

-Fluid loss, such as fever, sweating, inadequate fluid intake, diuresis etc.

-Over tiredness.

-Long time hematuria or proteinuria.

-Taking drugs with nephrotoxicity for kidney disease patients.

-Infection for patients with renal insufficiency, such as cold, pneumonia, intestinal infection, urinary tract infection.

-High blood pressure.

-Kidney disease.

Symptoms of high creatine level

-Disorder of water metabolism, including frequent urine, especially at night, thirsty, weakness, swelling, high blood pressure, heart failure, pneumonedema etc.

-Disorder of sodium metabolism, including hyponatremia and hypernatronemia.

-Disorder of potassium metabolism, including hyperkalemia and hypokalemia.

-Metabolic acidosis, including deep breath, poor appetite, stomachache, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, headache, restlessness, and even coma.

-Disorder of aluminum, magnesium, copper, zinc, selenium etc metabolism.

-Renal osteopathy, including osteodynia, myasthenia, skeleton deformity etc.

-Disease of respiratory system.

-Disease of circulatory system.

-Disease of digestive system.

-Disease of blood system, such as renal anemia.

-Disease of neuromuscular system and skin.

-Endocrine dysfunction and metabolic disorder, such as disorder of carbohydrate, lipid, protein, etc.

-Thyroid dysfunction, sexual dysfunction, growth retardation etc.

Treatment for high creatinine level

Dialysis is a process by which your blood is filtered through a machine. This removes creatinine and other wastes from your body, because your kidneys are unable to function properly.

Micro-Chinese Medicine Osmotherapy is an alternative to dialysis. It can directly penetrate these powdered Chinese herbs to kidneys through osmosis devices. The essence of Chinese herbs can repair the damaged kidneys and improve the kidney function. As long as the kidneys recover, creatinine will be discharged out of body.

Other Chinese medicine treatments, such as Acupuncture and Moxibustion, medicated bath, cupping therapy, also have effects on improving kidney function and decreasing creatinine level.

Diet for high creatinine level

-Restrict the intake of sodium. Patients with high creatinine almost invariably have high blood pressure and edema. It is easier for you to control high blood pressure and edema if you follow a low-sodium diet. Processed meats and canned soups should be avoided.

-Proper high quality protein. Patients with high creatinine levels often have to change the amount of protein they consume. Low-protein diet minimizes nitrogenous wastes in the blood so as to slow down the progression of kidney disease. But proper high quality protein is preferred, because it produces less wastes, such as fish, lean meat, milk etc.

-High vitamins. Vitamins can enhance immunity. An good immunity enables you to fight with kidney disease.
